cloud computing

Posted by: helloxiaxia on: March 17, 2009

Ok when I first started out I looked on wikipedia, and after reading that I was like what the fu** did I just read! So I am going to break it down not for you but for me. Cloud is a metaphor for internet based services. There are three different types of clouds. Public, Hybrid, and Private.  So what else? Cloud computing is a way that we can use the software we want and only pay for what we use. Also there is not installation so we don’t have to worry about how much space were taking up on our computers. The little that i gathered from my search has actually impressed me, but yet here is my question if this does take off and boom what will happened to going to the store and buying the software will company’s actually loose rather than gain?..Its like the whole cd vs mp3 thing and the truth is it is easier and way more convenient to log on to the computer and buy what you like.

Web Standards

Posted by: helloxiaxia on: March 10, 2009

I am not really sure I can really explain this but though my research I found that web standards is used to describe a lot of things. But what I  got from it is that Web standards is all about the viewer. Making sure that your web site can be compatible with any type of computer and their format. Personally I see web standards as apart of web 2.0. Using RSS feeds and Css is a very much new thing to me ,Yea I have seen it on the side address bar but only in the last couple of years. Truly all web standards is just a bunch of guideline that a creditable web site should follow to keep viewers and creditability. So my question for this blog is, I see the purpose of web standards but I also hate having to follow rules so should we have to?

Twitter

Posted by: helloxiaxia on: March 4, 2009

Twitter is like myspace/facebook meets text messaging. But we can also but mirco -blogs on their which is like podcasts or vodcasts. Except twitter or things like it are not long, they are short and sweet. Tweeting is like instant message but more advanced. Actually it pretty cool. But here is my question yeah twitter is cool but is it nesseary, I mean thats what I have a myspace for and txt messaging to tell my friends what going on with me. It not really natural for me to go on a blog-ish site and say Im blah today anyone have a joke to cheer me up when I could send a txt. You know?

Podcasting and Vodcasting

Posted by: helloxiaxia on: March 4, 2009

podcasting is pretty simple to explain everyone knows what it is we see the very time we go on youtube or any other website like it. The only thing is we don’t need much just a computer, camera,or cell phone. Podcast can be used for education or just averge people who want to connect with the world outside them. And now that we have itunes it easier then ever to post one and get listeners. Vodcast or video on demand cast started in the Netherlands and was picked up in Asia.  Today TV episodes as vodcast as are video blogs or ‘vlogs’ which are video blogs. There are 5 different types of vodcasts : Presentation vodcast, Actuality vodcasts, Feature vodcasts,Educational vodcasts, and Drama vodcasts.

How to build a community

Posted by: helloxiaxia on: February 26, 2009

Ok, so my research on building a community so far is very simple. To build a community you need a common idea. Then with that idea comes the time when you need help so who do ask? Thats where a community of practice comes into play. A community of practice can be anything just so long as there is a common idea. Then I realized that I am in at least 2 community of practice a week. One would be my job me and my co-worker can’t stop talking about work weather it’s things we can do better on or funny things that have happened. My other one that I am apart of is the T.A.E, we talk about all forms of art, techniques and throw ideas out there. It’s a way to get feedback from other artists out in the world. . But another thing that I realized is that we are a community of practice right? All of us blogging about one idea then sharing our opinons thats is  the definition of cop.

professional Bloggers

Posted by: helloxiaxia on: February 11, 2009

hey everyone i can barely see the computer screen! i have pink eye and it hurts terribly to see i have had it all weekend but i went to the doctor tues. so hopefully i will be ok and should have my blog up by wend. morning to afternoon..ty for understanding and ty to my best friend for writing this for me

So I surfed the internet for the answers to this question. I am not really sure how to explain this. Professional Blogging is almost like marketing your ideas. A blog is almost like a book about your selfs, but not our personal lives like a facebook or myspace. I mean we all have opinions an ideals why not share them? The only trick is we need feedback by getting subscribers and others to comment. So what do we do? Well, ask question of course and intrigue your readers to want to comment. And comment back to the ones who do comment to you. But not everything can be written about and there comes the other trick, what to write about . So make sure you know your boundaries be edgy but not over the top. Then go around to other professional blogs and comment to them  to build a community and get referrals. And one of the most important things is eye appeal personally I think a blog with a that little extra just makes it look like the blogger cares about their blog! Right?

Collective Intelligence

Posted by: helloxiaxia on: February 4, 2009

I am not really sure what Collective Intelligence is so far. What I have figured out is that the idea comes from the writings of a lot of other theorists. Really all collective Intelligence is just a term tied back to Web 2.0. It is the way we interact with the world. But one thing I know is, is that Collective Intelligence is not just focused on one area. It is the colboration of people coming together and debating about a topic(like a convention). I went to the CI web site but I didn’t really get it. Then I went to another web site for MIT and it was close to what we talked about in class. A world where human and computers work together, that is just crazy. I don’t know what I would do if my computer gave me more control over my world (probably giggle a lot). So now I know that Collective Intelligence is another web 2.0 advancement. To challenge this world, to make us question what is IQ really? What is group think and can we learn from this really? Can our computer change the world?

RSS

I always noticed that little icon in the corner on my browser, but I never knew what it was. RSS was created by a man for I believe Netscape, but then they decided that it was not necessary for them to have it. Now I know that RSS can means two different things but don’t ask me what they are. lol. When researching Web 2.0 I also found out about RSS. You see RSS is also a big part of the Web 2.0 movement. Why is this, well I can choose what type of information comes to me and it continues to update its self and sends new articles. RSS is a way I can control the information that comes to me. Also RSS is a way for me  to know weather a web page is consistently being updated. RSS isn’t really that hard to understand in all reality. It simply an another form of personalizing your internet to fit you.

Web 2.0

Posted by: helloxiaxia on: January 21, 2009

So after reading the article I was totally confused about what Web 2.0 was and Idid not even want think about trying to explain what i got from it. So of course  I did more search in the subject. I came across a few and they only confused me even more. The one thing I cannot grasp is what is Web 2.o a concept, buzzword, or a theory?  I know I cannot be the only one with this question so I  ”YouTubed It “. Then only did I understand, that Web 2.0 is more or less a new era.

One of the video’s I watched was . I read some articles but I didn’t really understand what I was reading. So what I got from Web 2.0  is that it is a new era. Web 2.0 is basically giving the internet back to us. We deside what is popular and what fits our needs. It is the concept of not just have a high-tech web site it is also about how many people visit your site, how interactive you are with consumers . Web 2.0 is like the 90’s vs the 70’s in a way. The one way I can explain it and it make any sense would be that web 2.0 is an Upgrade of the internet. Its evolved from the late 90’s and early 2000’s and become more involved with what we want and need.
